We bide for the pleasure that ne'er comes about, The sorrow comes ben without speerin', 'Tis whyles easy in, whaur 'tis no easy out, Instead o' applause, we maun whiles bide the hoot, An' sae we are aye keepet steerin'. But what sal we say tae the workin's o' Fate? We're tauld, an' we fin' we are tender, What guid wad it do tae protest an' debate? The clown an' the scholar, the sma' an' the great Ha'e a' in their turn tae surrender.
